Energy Services for the railway industry
The Product
DeltaRail offers both energy measuring and modelling services. We have developed and installed a number of electronic systems for measuring energy usage on both electric and diesel trains, with functionality that allows migration to other traction and rolling stock types. These systems use DeltaRail's DeltaComm communications platform for real time capture and analysis of energy usage via the internet. DeltaRail's XDM™ software platform, a web-based interface, provides the user with alternative ways of interpreting the database and displaying the results. Data can be viewed in a tabular format, graphically or on a map based display, providing operators with the analysis tools they need to make informed decisions about the services they operate.
The Benefits
DeltaRail's measuring services can determine the energy used by rolling stock over any route. The data can then be used to investigate ways of reducing energy usage by changing stopping patterns, line speeds or other factors such as driving style. Alternatively, in the case of an electrified railway, we can evaluate the capacity of the electrical supply to support intended service levels or changes to an existing service pattern. If the supply is inadequate we can suggest improvements to the system.
Modelling
DTS is DeltaRail's in-house modelling tool used to model and measure the energy usage of electric fleets. The DTS simulator provides a full range of mechanical outputs including tractive effort, efficiency or speed profiling. For accuracy the simulator allows for complex line characteristics like gradient, curvature and tunnels.
The Benefits
The benefits of using our DTS simulator include full treatment of regenerative braking on both AC and DC systems, modelling of operation of multiple trains within the system and a full range of electrical outputs including line voltage, train voltage and current, substation loading and energy consumption.
