AEA Technology Rail Completes Class 170 Turbostar Modification Programme

AEA Technology Rail has completed a modification programme for ‘one’ Railway’s three Car Class 170/2 Turbostar units with a contract value of £400,000.

These units required additional standard class seating to meet passenger demand and comprised:

Removal of the redundant buffet and replacement with Standard Class Seats.

Removal of the large First Class area and replacement with Standard Class Seats.

Re-Carpeting of all passenger saloons.

This work delivers each train with an additional 46 Standard Class Seats giving a total of 7 First Class and 180 Standard Class Seats per train.

AEA Technology Rail was responsible for the design work, procurement of material and installation on depot. Commenting on the completion of the project, Clive Morris, Business Director of Rural Services for 'one' Railway, said:

"We have been very pleased with the work carried out by AEA Technology Rail, during the re-seating programme of our 3 car class 170 units. Not only was the work to an excellent standard and delivered on time, but AEA also worked well with the one railways engineering and cleaning teams to ensure the project was well coordinated, and delivered an excellent all round result. Our customers have also commented that the project has given these trains a significant face lift".
