DeltaRail Systems Contribute to Success of New SNCF Track Recording Train
On 12 June 2006, SNCF, France's national railway, officially launched their new 30 million Euro dedicated infrastructure monitoring train "IRIS 320".
The train, designed by SNCF's Engineering Department, automatically monitors the condition of the track and records operational information from other systems, including signalling. DeltaRail is the prime turnkey contractor for the delivery of IRIS 320's track geometry recording system, and has developed a bespoke system that best suits SNCF's requirements and specifications.
The system includes the provision of measurement acquisition equipment, installation and design engineering, safety and project management and data management and integration services.
It comprises of ImageMap's Laserail 4000, and DeltaRail's world leading Tracksys software, which handles all aspects of data management and reporting. Designed in line with SNCF's specific needs, Tracksys records all measurement data relating to track geometry, which is stored in an integrated database for later assessment. The system also has the capacity to assess data in real-time and alert both the system operator and maintenance engineers to any urgent maintenance requirements during the course of a run. Therefore potentially dangerous inconsistencies can be addressed in a safe and timely manner, and with a minimum of disruption to railway operations.
Louis Gallois, president of SNCF, other SNCF board members, representatives of the French Transport Ministry and DeltaRail's Andy Dawson all attended the prestigious launch ceremony of IRIS 320. The guests were able to view a demonstration run of the train's systems in action.
Phil Holden, deputy managing director of DeltaRail said:
"Track monitoring trains are well established; although IRIS also offers the ability to monitor the track while travelling at up to 320kph, and to produce near real-time alarms as to the need for operational or maintenance actions. This puts DeltaRail at the forefront of high speed track maintenance technology".
